ABOUT RAGDOLLS

Ragdoll's originally came from california, america. Ann Baker was the founder of the ragdoll in the 60s. Josephine it is believed was of a white persian or angora ferral type who was bred with a birman whose offspring were then crossed with a burmese type cat creating to the ragdoll.

Ragdolls are born completely white or cream. Eyes open from seven days old showing the beauty of their beautiful blue eyes. Their points begin to show in 5-10 days. The traditional ragdoll was a pointed cat with a long tail equal to their body. The chest ,bib,chin areas are lighter in colour.

Colourpoints

Ragdolls come in several colourpoints and patterns. The traditional colours are Blue, Seal, Chocolate, Lilac. The newer colours are Tortie, Red, Cream and Lynx.The nose is seal,Blue,Lavender or light pink unless a cream then it should have a brighter pink, torties can have a split face.

Patterns

The traditional pattern was colorpointed but now other patterns exist such as lynx (tabby striping). Tortie,(Lynx x red/colourpoint) Tortie (seal or blue point x red point).Bicolours have an inverted v on the face and have high mitts on all four legs). If two bicolours are mated they can produce high white bicolours, these offspring have alot more white on them.The other pattern is Mitted this means they have white feet.

Characteristics

Ragdoll will grow till they reach four years of age, Their weight varies between 10lbs - 20lbs. Males are around 5lb heavier than females.They are large, floppy laid back cats that have the ability to go limp while holding them, that is how they got their name.

They are very affectionate and lay in the most unusual places. Ragdolls are non-aggressive cats therfore must remain indoors as they would not stand a chance in a cat fight if let out. but they do growl and swat at any newcomers (cats) in the household.

Our ragdolls live with two japanese spitz dogs who are 10 and 11 years old at the moment, they get on so well with my raggies.

Be Warned They are so addictive

They love to spawl out in the sink and ask for a drink of fresh water from the tap.
